Cousin Chris

Today we said farewell to a much loved family member, there were tears, laughs and fond memories, but most of all there was support. I wrote a poem in honour of Chris, for my Auntie, which I read out at the ceremony.

To Mum

I am the cars that pass you by.
I am the birds up in the sky.
I am that noise you cannot find.
I am the one who knocked the blinds.

I am the one that pressed the bell.
I am the one you thought did yell.
I am around you here and now.
Please don’t worry, I’ll stick around.

I won’t forget you, please don’t fret.
I’ll keep you close, close to my chest.
I am that reflection you thought you saw.
Just remember me, and you’ll see me more.

Wipe those tears from your face.
And remember mum, I’m in a better place.
I’ll see you soon, but not too soon.
Go on and live your life, I’m proud of you.
